My Summer Project

I am quite self-conscious about appearances.  We bought to ugliest house in the neighborhood and got the best deal. This seems to be our "way".  We got such satisfaction working on our home in Tucson, it seems to be in our blood now.  We only looked for homes we could improve on. When we moved in to our Sammamish home we thought it was so green, and loved the foliage.  We had no idea what was overgrown, or weeds, or what.  Moving from the desert the green was just wonderful.  It didn't seem to matter.  Last summer, my eyes began to open and my observation of what was on purpose and what was a weed become evident.  As soon as it stopped raining long enough, I geared up and started pruning those ugly Juniper bushes.  I hate these things, a cheap/poor excuse for landscaping material.  Half of the bushes had blight, which makes them turn brown and dry.  Slowly, but surely I whittled away the whole hillside.  Then I hand pulled the knee-deep green weeds that someone thought would make a good ground cover. NOT!!  It only got tangled up in the juniper.  3 months of working on an incline, and I need to see a chiropractor.  After a 2 month break, Jamie and I got out there and pulled the stumps out by chaining them up to the JEEP.  That was the best part, satisfaction that I has won the fight with these ugly bushes.  The kids helped pin down the weed blocker, and then it was up to me to dump the mulch.  14 wheelbarrows later I had it done.  The neighbors are now talking to us and have nothing but compliments about the improvement, furthering my obsession with home improvements.
My only before  pic, and Katelyn's friends "paid us a visit". Wasn't that sweet?

Leighann...it looks SOOOO good. So clean! I love the rock around it too that really should help with re-growth and keeping it a clean look. I totally love the pots in the driveway by the garage. I have been chopping the picture up and picking it apart to plagerize all your good ideas. Seriously...you should go into business!!!

the rock was already there and I have moved so much rock in AZ I don't think I could move this much. neighbors tell me that previous owners had several tons of river rock delivered. The whole property is outlined in this rock. It works for now; until we can get the yard excavated to level it out in the front. It is pretty treacherous to mow the hilside. I have been thrown down into the rocks a few times.

What kind of mulch should we get for the front...I love the way yours looks and you probably already did all the research!! I want to have it delivered this week and in the two flower beds by Saturday...(the Bridal shower). It isn't bark right? Still love the way it looks...I took a look at the other shots on your Piscasa...looks so good!

it is bark mulch. It isn't chunk wood though, it is more like shredded. It smells really good too because it is cedar. thanks
I got the "nugget" kind before and just didn't like it. It doesn't look natural to me. This stuff looked more natural and it is natuarlly pest resistant. meaning it won't attrack carpenter ants, termites.
