With that....here we go...
This year has been quite a bit cooler, luckily for us, and quite a bit busier (as stated previously) and so we didn't get out berry picking until last week. Now, berry picking holds a very special and dear place in my heart. Where I'm from, the U.P. , the berry picking is awesome! Wild blueberries are quite abundant and we used to go picking them for HOURS when I was a kid. My Dad always said we had to fill our bucket if we wanted to go home, but the taste of wild blueberries is beyond compare. So of course I need to pass this pastime along to my children and let them experience the sheer joy of picking berries. So we took them to a local organic farm to pick raspberries. Not quite the same as trouncing around the backwoods of Michigan, but it's about as close as we can get.
Savanah brought along a friend to enjoy all the fun with. (Thanks Lynette for the directions on how to link Picasa pictures!) The kids really did have fun, at least for a little while. Throwing berries at each other (especially the overripe gooey ones) does hold a certain satisfaction. Of course, not so much when you're the Dad that gets to help clean them off of your daughter when they splatter.
And once that fun was over it was a little hard for Katelyn (and to be fair the others, they just didn't get their picture taken) to stay focused on the task....
Now, where are those berries?

Of course being the anchor of the team, I dove in, persevered and stayed vigilant...with no thought of bodily harm..
And in the end, everyone had a good time.
Garrett "Hey, what 'cha doin over there?"
Savanah "This is cool"
Katelyn's "illusive" smile
Well, maybe not everyone

thanks Jamie, for taking and choosing such a flattering photo. Don't let him kid you, "the anchor that stayed vigilant was throwing rotten raspberries too!! :)
Jamie I have to agree the wild berries are so good. I just got back from northern Minnesota (girls camp) where we got to pick all the raspberries we could find. We even found some blueberry bushes with little tiny berries on them. I had never seen blueberries in the wild. We even got to pick wild hazelnuts. yumm
Yea, wild blueberries are very small (thus why it took hours to fill a bucket), but they sure do pack a flavorful punch! I'm envious of your opportunity to pick them wild!

How come California, produce capital, yada, yada, has NO berries to pick? I wish we were there... anywhere... to pick some berries.
I did get a bunch of raspberries at Costco though, for some ridiculous price. I'll share if you share. :)
Sometimes you have to search alot to find the places. It took us awhile to find the good places. Here's a website that can help for your area: http://www.pickyourown.org/CAla.htm
They have a few places listed in San Diego county.
