In light of our efforts to enjoy and explore the area; I chose to plan a trip to a sandy beach on the Oregon coast. for Jamie's birthday. I had one weekend free in July to make it happen between YW camp, cub day camp, and Jamies' 11 yo camp out. We also have been stocking up and building our camping equipment. I wanted to be as close to the beach as possible and found an RV "Resort" that sounded great. They even had horses available for rent to ride up the beach, showers and flush toilets. Sounded pretty sweet to me. I booked way back in April, and we were all very excited to go to Haystack Rock, Cannon Beach, OR .
We loaded to car Thursday night, Jamie took off Friday from work and we headed out bright and early. I forgot to print directions to the RV park, but Jamie was able to look up a map on his phone. Thank goodness for technology. I fell asleep and we missed the exit just before Portland and didn't realize until we were in Portland in the heavy traffic and I had a chance to check our status. OOPS!! All is well, it just meant we were in teh car a little longer, like and hour, but we made it to camp in plenty of time to set up camp, go to the ocean, and make dinner before it rained. :) Yep it rained on another campout again. we were smart this time we brought the pop-up canopy and upgraded our tent since the last camp out. All the other campers huddled in their tents, we played Yahtzee under the canopy.
We met a nice man and his wife that travel the country in their RV all summer, Savanah, Garrett, and I rented horses and went riding on the beach, and the kids played catch with the softball. After lunch we went into the quaint little town and rented 'funcycles' to ride up the beach to the tidepool at the base of Haystack. On the way back to camp we stopped at the Candy Kitchen and loaded up on Homemade saltwater taffy and Fresh carmel corn. Mmmmm, that was soo good. I want to learn how to make 'crunchy' carmel corn.
I rained all night Saturday, so we had to pack up the car Sunday as the rain let up, so it took a few hours. We made one more stop at the candy store before heading out of town, and had lunch at a local cafe. the kids are still talking about how good the food was. It was such a nice vacation. Laid back, and just us. we will definitely be returning.

That sounds like so much fun!! I'm glad you upgraded to better equiptment so the trip was enjoyable. Can I ask...was it very expensive? That's just hte kind of thing Andew and I like to do...maybe a couple of years down the road.
not expensive. campsite was $34 a night b/c it was at the beach. the funcycles $12 for an hour and half. Horses were the most. $200 for the 3 of us on a 45 minute-1 hour ride. candy store was next most expensive LOL
FUN! I wanna go!
