Garrett is at scout camp this week, I love the updates the scout master is sending. Sounds like my son to a 'T' :D
Day 1: I just wanted to let everyone know that as the first day of camp is coming to a close everyone is doing great and having a good time. We got checked at 8:30 and after quickly setting up camp dove right into the activities, the young men worked on a variety of merit badges from Astronomy to woodcarving. Later in the day as a troop we shot .22 rifles, Camden took the “best shot in troop” award (as awarded by me) followed very closely by several others in the troop. We also did the swim test and beach combing, which due to some scheduling mishap turned into free beach time and rock skipping but fun none the less.
The weather has been great and plenty warm, perfect for camping. We ended the evening with “Music Fest”, a concert performed by the camp counselors and after walking up hill all day I think everyone will sleep well. J
I’ll try to get some more pictures out tomorrow but here is a shot of Brant helping me setup my new mobile office which I have dubbed the Microsoft West Campus. J
Thanks everyone for helping them get ready for the camp, so far everyone has been very well prepared which made the day go very smoothly. Also special thanks to Lee for getting up very early and taking the day off to help us stay organized.
Tomorrow will be a packed and fun day!
James
Day 2: (yesterday but I didn’t make the hike back to the lodge with WiFi last night…) was equally exciting, everyone is settled into the schedule and pretty well managing themselves. Everyone is enjoying their merit badge classes and are well on their way to earning at least 3 this week. For troop time we did the obstacle course, archery and beach combing part two. Garrett was our star archer and shot well enough to get into the exclusive “Hawkeye club” (which was great because I was really worried that he would refuse to come home until he did ) Brant and Camden were our waiters for meal times which were an exciting selection of waffles, chicken patties and sloppy joes.
To close out the evening our fire marshals Brent and Garrett (Brant to build it and try to throw everything he could into it and Garrett to put it out and keep Brant from throwing anything too big into it) built a fire and we made hot chocolate and smores.
Tonight is the big stake fireside so the young men are finalizing their skit and getting ready to cook some serious Dutch oven cobbler.
Now off to day 3…
Thanks,
James
